now i cant afford one of those 1000 dollar digital drum sets but i want to know if anyone knows anything about the other drums sets...like the YAMAHA DIGITAL DRUM SET yDD-60 NEW version DD55 +AC ADP...do you know whether they sound realistic and blend well with sampled drums once i begin to do drum solos with the set...i hope this is understandable...</IMG>

Blendable with samples? Depends how well you mix them I guess.

ray, that set will work. you could record the audio out and it also has midi connections, so you could record your playing on that device into your DAW as a midi event and then route your own drum samples.

I see that it also has two foot controllers inputs. so down the line, you could buy a kick pedal and hi hat controller.

This is a similar design to the roland spd-s and there are guys who are playing these things with a kick pedal and hi hat like a full drum kit. check youtube for examples

The only drawback is if you like to play while you trigger samples in real time is the latency. I haven't found the right settings for my kit, so I basically play without any drum sounds, just striking the pads, and then I'll go into the DAW and route sounds to the midi events.

The new DD-65 looks silly in my opinion.. the design is like something from the 80's. Look at DD-55. The two pedals are usually included in the kit. I tried it at the music store - plays well for the money. And now you can buy old DD-55 for like $100 or less on ebay.

I just wish they implemented internal memory for custom samples. The new DD-65 still doesn't have it I believe, but at least it has custom kit memory.

i have an "Ion" drumset which sells at Target right now for $199. It'z pretty cool for such a low price. I use it for it'z MIDI implementation, so I can play drum kits that i've custom made and edited. I make velocity layered sounds and use this drum set. I just bought it cuz I like the feeling of actually playing the drums vs. poking keys/MPCs.

How well is it constructed? Can it keep up with the abuse of drums sticks and and vibrations? How well does it translate fills and such?

yeah I was looking at those ions. I have a real drum kit, and I know I need to use that more for rolls and coming up with specialized grooves.

how well does that target ion work... I was going to get mine from craigslist

It works good for me... I mainly use it for all my 808 and crunk trackz. So I haven't really "abused" it the way I do my regular drum set (rockin' out). Either way i'm sure it could take the beating.
