I basically went from composing beats on the MOTIF ES8 to sampling on the MPC2500 to broaden out my horizons. but now my question is... if i dont have the sample cleared first, is there any way i can copyright the beat?

Copyright attaches the moment your track is in any kind of tangible form. You can register the copyright with the US Copyright Office if you want the benefits that registration provides. You still need to get permission from the original copyright owners before you do anything with the song though.
