Hi,
I love to sample...i LOVE it....its a true artform, not to mention all the other techniques that go into making a good song beat drum pattern or rhythm around a sample on a drum machine sampler sequencer.

I often sample a loop and find it hard to get it in right time and rythm with the tempo on the drum machine sequencer etc......either to short or too long....to weak to strong....to slow to fast....when i finally reach the spot thats perfect its like i just made my girl climax like no other feeling haha. to find the perfect spot to loop a sample is a truely great feeling then from there you can go nuts and conduct all kinds of things into beats...

beatmatching.....you can take mutiple samples and find a common tempo to make a uniquely dope beat. chop drums at fast speed whatever!

i want to know all of your techniques on looping samples and how you perfected your style and methods.

when im on a machine like a Asr-X i find the best sample start time...this can take a while to get just right then after that is taken care of its just left to the tempo......

same thing on a computer....which is sweet cuz you dont even have to go by ears if you dont want to, you can visually see the samples chop points with a slicer program like Recycle and it takes seconds to chop samples......then from there i take the sample and do the same thing and find the exact tempo.....

the thing i dont like is using a drum machine that doesnt have PRECISE tempo control...meaning i like it if you can adjust the tempo to for example. 69.489bpm instead of just 69.

how do you guys do it on certain machines and your certain techniqes....

love to hear bout how yall do it.

i started off just looping samples and adding drums.
then i got my MPC1000....ahhhh...refreshed....
find a loop, time it out, throw it on the mpc and chop into 16 pieces and load each peice into a pad.

find my next sample/loop, and do the same thing just throw it into another bank on the MPC and go to town..

once ive got my samples cut and recorded the way i want them i go back to my drums(i make a simple drum pattern to follow at first) and go crazy...cut a vocal from my record stick it in the beat and then have a freestyle session until i find the words that are gonna complete the track...

thats what ive been doing with my samples recently. if my fingers are sore from the MPC ill chop one in FL and click away, but i would much rather use the MPC..

Big slow, y throw recycle in there, u can tap the F8 key while ur loop is playin to add cue points then alt8 to batch export, there u have it, slices a'la recycle, yet uncomressed unlike like the mp3'ish rex file format. Load the slices into the nnxt, nn19 or the redrum. The only con here is u can't load waves in the dr.rex, but the nnxt does everything the good dr does. Search "cue point" in cool edit help menu for futher clarification.

the way i got better at looping was to learn a little music theory which really upgraded my beats 100 fold. you have to learn when the beat actually comes back around. music theory will also help you with making up some cool drums patterns i highly suggest this there are programs that make looping a breeze but learning theory will bring you to another level

a thing about looping samples is when its looped.....filtering it......i listen to classic songs then listen to the original sample and its from a 70's song...and just by looping the same alone it sounds weak, but with filtering and eqing out certain frequencies it becomes something different....like i have the mobb deep first cd and the song "drink away the pain" its got a sample from a song called "i remember i made you cry" by the headhunters. and thats a perfect example of the original sample being flipped into somethin different......i might be wording what im trying to say wrong but really listen to the sample originally and then the mobb deep song its used in and its the same yet different feel.
