Have you every tried plugging in regular powered speakers (ie PC speakers) into your guitar?

I tried it with my guitar and bass. The guitar gets amplified while the bass doesn't. Why? Is there any chance of damaging anything by doing this? It's just that I wanna go to a friend's house to show him how to play bass, but I don't have an amplifier, so.. I wonder if maybe I could plug it into his stereo so at least we'll be able to hear it?

Different pickups have different output levels.

(The guitar may have even had a preamp in the circuit. Do you know?)

No, I doubt the guitar has a preamp circuit.. It looks like this (attached).

When I plug them into my audio interface, their signal is the same - I don't have to change any input values or anything.. Maybe because my PC speakers don't pick up bass frequencies (it has no woofer)?

Never mind, I just tried it again. The bass does amplify, but I can just barely hear it. Friend's system has a subwoofer, so I hope it will work better there..

Not trying to be deamining or anything but just a little curious, why are you gonna use PC speakers as a amplifier?

I'll lend my bass to a friend for a couple days, so he can decide whether he wants to seriously start learning it. In that case he will buy a real amp.
