The hardest thing about learning guitar is the technique. Once you have that down... it just get easier from there on. Focus on learning the basics... you can pick it up real fast if you are dedicated. What type of music are you trying to learn to play?

Just play.

And to expand on that, I tried a couple software demos (i assume you mean software that teaches you how to play, right?) but I didn't like that. I like the more direct approach of jamming to mp3s/finding chord tabs to my favorite songs on e-chords.com/composing my own songs. I also just sit around and randomly play something when I'm not busy. Inspiration is a big part of that and I usually find it on Youtube (watch people who are really good) and by going to concerts. I get a lot of inspiration from anyone who performs on stage.

But the biggest obstacle is learning how to learn. And learning it well.
Good luck.

When I first started the guitar, I hated it. It was strum-strum-strum and it didn't sound good.

You have to acclimate your hands to playing fdiffering coordinated patterns with both hands. The left hand is fingering and fretting shapes that feel awkward "when you first start" and the right hand is picking and strumming.

If you want to play, I'd committ to six months of practice/lessons before you determine it's not for you. Too many people give up too quickly.

the guitar pro software is also good. There are plenty of tabs for gp format.

the thing with tabs is you may have to try several versions and often piece together bits and pieces of many since they are interpretations from different people.

There's simply not a better way to learn than by that advice. You can see what kind of things a guitarist does in real world situations, and you can see exactly how people react to certain styles of playing. There's something about having a little bit of playing knowledge, and then watching someone's hands who really knows what they are doing that just makes learning so much easier.
