just by a bass tuner, they are not that expensive
you dont need special software

I just searched Google (tm) and came up with this great site.

You can tune guitar and bass to different tunings too! Check out their FAQs as well. Very informative.

Up until now I used GuitarRig's built-in tuner and this guitar tuner flash:
