I put on some new guitar strings today (4 the 1st time).

Then I tuned them, but they all sound to high in pitch, even tho my tuner is saying there in tune.

I prob did make them to tight cuz I broke my A string lol.

But If I lower them they go way to loose.

Do I just need to give them time?

Also What size string should I have? I had 10 - 46.

If that to big?

no you should tune them to the correct note the first time you tune up.

your A string should _not_ have broken, you must have tightened it too much. make sure you read the manual for the tuner and check that you're in the right octave.

10-46 is generally considered light gauge, depending on the brand. there's no right or wrong string, it's all based on preference and finger strength. if you're a beginner, light gauge should be fine!

i'm pretty new to playing guitar too, i've only just changed my strings last week, i broke the damn thinnest string because i tightened too much, good thing i bought two pairs. It sounded a little weird to me at first, but they just need to be stretched in. now my strings are sounding nice after a few days of use.

Do you take all your strings off first or do you change them one at a time? Electric or Acoustic? If electric, fixed bridge?

If electric, change your strings one at a time. I start at the low E string first. I take the old one off, put the new one on, and then tune. Follow that for the rest of the strings.

I always tune flat and then up.
