Anyone use these to record guitars at home?

This seems to be more practical than trying to record a peavey 5150 in your house (volume).

I'm looking at the zvex nano head and the orange tiny terror.

main purpose will be strictly for recording.

Best case would be a versatile amp, one that could handle high gain metal (Trivium, Shadows Fall) and still sound good clean.

maybe add a boost or drive before the amp.

Any suggestions or tips?

I have the pod xt live and would like to add a mic'd guitar amp to the arsenal.

Have a look at the modded 5watt epiphone amps on youtube. There's a big scene of people who mod the epiphone and fender blues jr amps to be higher gain.

good look, I've been checking out all the different forums and the consensus seems to be... you want high gain like the big major metal bands, then you need a big amp to push air into a mic.

There are tons of these modded epiphone valve's on ebay. This new amp by crate the blackheart is out and has gotten good reviews. But spending a couple hunderd bucks on amp that needs some mods to sound better (not like 70's rock) is a downer.

I think it's going to be the Orange Tiny Terror (2 settings - 7 watt and 15 watt). Put it through a 2x12 orange cab. I could use a metal muff in front for high gain and still have a good sounding tube amp. I experimented with a mic'd guitar on my newest song and I think this is the way to go for me. Plus, I can still use my outbourd pedals, podxtl, and plugins by reamping.

thanks

Still looking at these amps. you're looking at a minimum $1k to pick one of these up.

Some of these 5w amps are $2200 out the door.
