but thats not the ONLY classification of sampling (to what the op said)

there are many styles of sampling

mainly derived from DJing

Yes, sampling is taking snippets from other songs and using them in your song.

But you may or may not know that there are many hip-hop songs in which every part is sampled...the drums are sampled, the molody is sampled etc. songs made entirely of pieces of other records.

For instance, the drums in "The Humpty Dance" and Dre's "187" came from the same Sly & The Family Stone song "Sing A Simple Song"

I wrote this song a long TIME ago...(back in '93 or '94)

sampling means taking a piece (no matter how large or small) of another recording


for example when u load up ur drums...unless ur playing them yourself with a real drum set up (like rock bands etc) those are samples.
