what's good my question is concerning sampling from records, as i always do. normally i just cut my sample after recording it in normal stero sound from the record, then proceed to eq and effects etc. is there a step i'm missing? should i first be converting to mono sound, as i have heard people speak of this. is this a good sampling technique? and if so how do i do it with fl or cool edit? thanks homies.

Where you hear that from? O_o

I'm not saying its wrong, I've just never heard of that. And y would you even want to convert it to mono, besides maybe saving a little space.

You'll get some better results by actually sampling those drums in mono. They were recorded in mono systems, so...

as far as the actual samples of melodies and everything...i like to leave those in stereo it makes for a better finished product in my opinion...i even track into protools in stereo and mix it in stereo as well...im less picky with drums because alot of the drums u use will come in mono anyway...however stereo drums do sound nice as well....and im addicted to using effects to create a virtual stereo track outta my kicks and snares...i feel it livens them and makes them fuller sounding...it also helps for placement at times when i wanna pan them to a precise spot...like say 30L and 30R rather than just to one side like 30R...you feel me?

I sample almost 80 percent in mono ... some stuff is just panned to hard or I'll want to eliminate some element that is on either the left or right. But it's all personal pref
