Im fairly new at sampling and I wanted to know how to get certain pieces out of samples (whether it's vocals drums etc...) and be able to take out background sounds that I dont need or want when Im going straight into an mpc 2000xl.... Or if I have to send it into pro tools first thats fine too.....

it's difficult to eliminate drums/melody/etc from a song perfectly. try using Equalizers. it won't work perfectly but u can try.

I agree with Bob. It will be kind of hard to cancel out the background sounds. You definitely can try to filter them out. I usually filter out the highs or the lows, depending on what I want to use more.

Ok..... to do that I will need to export the samples into my mpc or directly to the computer and then edit them with my software and then import them back to my mpc 2000xl???

You can try to do it the way you just explained, or you can try using the EQ effects on your 2000xl

It would be really interesting to get a few more pointers on this topic. I've been struggling with this for a while and I spend a lot of time messing with samples trying to find out what I can do. I really don't have access to a studio or a guy I can spy on and steal the art from. Actually I've learn the little I can do from the net or from trial and error but this still eludes me.

generally this works for me...

Filter it as best u can on your MPC or whatever u use to sample...( i have an MPC so thats what i kno) but take care NOT to muddy or distort the sample....and NOT to take out all of any one division of the sound (low end or high end..) its good to have that middle still in there regardless....then with whatever u have left over...when u track out into protools...run you EQ on it...then whatever effects you have to compress and boost the signals u want and limit the ones u dont.... NOTE* if u have adobe audition thats even better....its amazing at cleaning samples and does most things on presets...something protools should definetly look to employ

I like all your information..... And yeah I have every software there is too use.... Im hella computer savvy so Ill try and imply what you have informed me.... And I think will go straight into pro tools using my tables and mixer then export the sample to Adobe and back to the mp bcuz when I sample and it has all the rest of the instruments in the background it kind of throws my beat off.... But definitely thanks and I will try and work on the stuff then post my beats up when I finish something Im satisfied with

What the fuk does eqing have to do with eliminating background sounds? And if you do successfully use eq to eliminate those sounds your sample will sound like shat!
