Is there any secret formula out there for finding out the key or chords being played in your chosen samples? For instance, I don't sample much and I decided to get my feet wet. I made this beat using a piano sample. I like it but I'm pretty sure the sounds I put around it are not being played with the right chords. I know that knowing the right key to the sample and building around that key would make it so much better. (I don't know the pianoman's lingo, so I hope this makes a little sense.) I put a sample on here just for reference, BUT BE WARNED!!!
It has not been mixed or processed whatsoever so please don't give me feedback on the mix, or lack thereof. Turn your speakers up!

The key is, for you to know what key the sound is in. You have to have a good ear to do this. Sum people cant sum people can, Sumtimes its multiple chords they used, So u might have to find that, Besides that there is no easy way out

i understand where you are coming from, but it's kind of hard to believe that someone with no training, never did a beat before, and just loves to listen to music can listen to a professional piano sample, go to a piano, and be able to play it, slow or whatever, by ear because they "can"!! I mean maybe after a little training or someone guiding them to train their ear, maybe.

I have no musical training on the piano/keyboard Etc, But if i here a sample and i wanna replay it i can do it, Maybe not exactly how the sample was played but very very close to it. Its easier than what you think, It just takes time, Thats how i lay basslines over samples, That Sh!t has to be on key, if not your bass is gonna sound WACK!!! Its easier than what you think, dont give up so easily,

No doubt dude, just practice man, There are a couple sites online that show you Chords and piano Transitions, Use that and practice that, become familier with the keyboard,

Also. If you pitch up a sample even if you find that key to that sample, its still not gonna match up. Your taking the sample out of tune. So you will have to do the same on the keyboard or vsti. With the pitch or mod weel.

Is that maybe the problom your having? Tring to lay sounds over pitched up samples? Will i am samples alot and plays synths over his stuff, but if you notice he really dont mess with the sample itself.

i can't tell exactly what chord a sample is in (can't identify names by ear) but i can show you what notes are in it and aren't, which notes fit well and which don't. it's a pretty easy thing to do if you have some musical influence in your life.

I`m in the same kind of a boat. Useing ear is exactly answer finally.
But that has original tone that use to record by diffrent equipment.
If we know that how it maked that we can make little same sound.
And i think diffinetry useing equipment. i`m useing mpc & triton. thats sound diffrent each. Its like wall of 24bit and 16bit.
I cant make right tune. So my final weapon is my ear. And I`ll digg that how maked that sound. How about to use a vari phrase or something ?
Can someone do to make right tune ? I want to know how to make it.
Please !!
Sorry if my language is wrong.....
