I really don't have a set way of sampling. Sometimes I'll make a beat and fit a sample over it. Sometimes I just sample random sounds and replay them once I edit them a bit and other times I'l sample a 4-8 bar loop and construct a song around that. Then last but not least I''ll have a finished song, mute everything out and sample some stuff and try it out on the snares. I'm saying all of this to say this is music and music is ART. Try all ideas and see what works for you.

I guess I'm talking about how do you sample a loop so that you can use it in fl or whatever. Stuff like what do you start with, the kick or right after it when you're trying to pull the sample out. I've been trying to chop out samples of songs so I can use them as a loop. Someone told me I have to count the bars and beats and then find the tempo and stretch it or somthing like that. I have no idea what they're talking about.

Heres what I do. I'll pull up the song I wanna sample in Acid (which has a beatmapping wizard). Then i put the down beat on a snare with a good, visible waveform. Then i put the other marker two snares away. (For like a soul sample its probably between 60-75 bmp). Then i just speed it to the tempo I want, chop, loop, or whatever, then add some drums. Hope that helps.

The tick, tick, tick, tick. Do you mean like a metronome? I'm using cool edit pro. I just got it.

If I am trying to fit a sample over a beat I could either map it to a keyboard and play it at different speeds until you find the pitch and tempo that matches the tempo you have on your session, or you could chop it into pieces and adjust them so you can cue them on the beat or on the eigth note value or whatever. as far as the beat of the original music that I am sampling, there is numberous methods of either using the beat, or denying it and hiding it, it just depends on the kind of sample and placement.
