I've been using cool edit since i started. Copped a copy from my friend and got real used to it. I admit I slept on Audacity. That's all i've heard about tho, audacity this, audacity that sooooo last night I downloaded and installed it. I immediately fell in love with it. So I know some people in here have questions about a good program to use to chop, so I just thought I'd post my experience.

I also use Audacity - and for what chopping and sample-extraction work I do, it is more than adequate. I've never used anything else, so I don't know if there are any shortcomings compared with other programs.

Also, I think the main reason you probably hear it get rave reviews is that it's 100% free. A lot more accessible to every Tom, Dick & Harry.

what do I need to extract the samples as mp3? I use FL6 so it would make more since for me to extract my samples as mp3's, mainly for storage space reasons.

You would do this exactly the same way as you would extract/export to WAV format.

Once you've isolated the sample you wish to use in FL Studio (you can either have it as a selection or in a separate Audacity project), go to File ---> Export to MP3. Name your sample and save it in one of your FL-recognised directories, refresh your FL Studio browser (if you've got it running - I normally do) and you're good to go!

I actually personally prefer to export my samples to WAV rather than MP3. Never actually looked into what the difference is - as far as I'm aware FL Studio supports both file formats throughout it's interface.

Nah bruh, it sounds the same. The only difference i've found with MP3 and WAV format is the file size. A sample in MP3 format could be 600k, as compared to a .wav would be 6 to 7MB.

As far as extracting as an MP3. I know how to do it, but it just wouldn't let me do it because it gave me some error message. When I get home i'll try it again and post the error message.
