Ok, So I'm tearin' it up on my FL demo lol. Buying the program next week. But i need to know how to "chop" a sample. Other than that, I'm content with figuring everything else out myself. I've actually alreaady tried to chop but to no avail lol. any help?

Oh and one other thing homie, I have a few samples that I like but there are sounds I'd like to take out. Such as trumpets, maybe bass...Where do I do all of that at in FL? Or can I? an explanation would help, or maybe a link to a tutorial, even though mostof the ones Ive seen on here suck.

get at me tho bruh

Thankss

As no-one else has, I'll chuck a comment in. Haven't used FL in ages, use Reason these days, but should still apply. I doan think you can chop in FL, you can't in Reason an thats very similar. You need a wave editor. Even if FL has some rudimentary way of chopping, it still woan be as good as a wave editor. I use Adobe Audition. You could use Audacity which I think is free. Load your sample in the wave editor and use it to chop the sample up, then save your chops and load them as samples into FL so you can trigger them etc however you want. As for getting rid of sounds, its not as easy as everyone new to this thinks; your brain can decode individual sounds (like oh I can hear a trumpet and a drum and someone singing all at the same time), but your computer can't. You have to do your best to help the wave editor remove frequencies that the instruments are playing, but you can't just remove the brass section etc. Bass is a bit easier to isolate, cos it just uses low frequencies. You will need to eq and filter in the wave editor (there maybe options in FL, I dunno, but it woan be as good as a wave editor) but the best way to learn about removing sounds is to play about with filters in a wave editor. Hope that helps...

Very lack luster advice because you can, and I don't even mess with FL and Know that much. Now its not the greatest if I can remember, but it works. Get yourself an mpd or one of those kontrol pads with usb. Because you said FL 7 right? I'm not that sure on how to chop in FL though cause I got an MV, I use to mess wit recycle when i had a mac, cause I would clean samples up before i hit them in my MV, get rid of the bass and drums so i could layer mine in, but recycle is on windows too. But with the mpd or kontrol you can assign your chops into FL because there is a drum layout with the exact 16 pads and such. Just download some demos and figure out what works for you, cause it would be a good side software to FL, but when you buy FL or a sampling software like soundforge or kontakt, READ THE MANUALS, lol, they are your friend!.......oh yea, with taking trumpets and stuff, you gotta try to get areas where only that instrument is going, like solos. its ok if the bass or drums are playing with it cause you can eq those out. but if you want a horn hit and theres guitars and keys playing, hard to get a clean hit ya know.

Pointlessly insulting tonyp86, if you read my comment you would see I said it is probably possible to chop in FL, but a wave editor is a better option. That is true, you cannot beat a wave editor when it comes to editing sound files. Maybe you should try reading someones full comment before passing judgement on it.

Again, you doan really know what you are on about. You even recommend soundforge later on, which is a WAVE EDITOR.

Anyway, Citysun, ignore my annoyance with tonyp86, some people on this site are quite young and foolish, however, he is quite correct about one thing, it is easier to find a sample where just one instrument is playing than trying to filter out all the frequencies you do not want in a sample where lots of instrument are playing.

Anyway, you could try what he said about chopping, but most people who really know how to chop would argue that the flexibility offered by a wave editor is far better for chopping than using a program like recycle, though recycle makes the job very easy (and therefore limits creativity) when chopping samples.

No offence intended tonyp86, just read someones comment before being negative about it. PS tonyp86, you can't eq out a snare...

In FL7 you can use edison to chop your samples and use a midi drum pad and the FPC in FL to trigger your chopped samples. hope that helps.

OMG. Lol, yo i wasnt tryin insult you, but after looking like "quite young and foolish" for crying over my comments whatever. Just to let you know recycle isn't all that I use. I have an m-audio card so that I can bang out the mv or use the mv for midi after I chop on the computer in "wave editors". mind yourself man. *karma*, keep it on yourself

Im just tryin put minor advice out there for someone who sounds like me 2yrs ago, small steps for now. You wouldn't buy a 16 a Range Rover when he just got his license would you?

the simplest solution is to use the cut tool, load your samples as plain wav files into the playlist ( the bottom part with automation and wat-not), cut them as you see fit... but dont go loading a full 5 minute mp3... you pretty much hafta use a wave editor to 1) change the format from mp3 to wav and 2) make the mp3 into more workable pieces

in FL7 you can load a song into the sequencer. Open it in edison (select it , right click on the waveform, select edit) and you can drag slices using the drag button in Edison to the FPC which i use my MPD to play the slices.
