Also when you throw a low pass on your sampled bassline and you are left with the low-end of the kicks that were in there, do you place your kicks over the pre-existing kicks? I am wondering how people go about doing this. It isn't too easy to find an isolated bassline in a song from any genre...but it is probably a little easier to find one isolated in reggae where the basslines are really complex and dominate the mix....just my thought.

I love Jazz, but it's all about personal flavor. Reggae, Funk, Soul, een some disco stuff out there has nice basslines
I take after some advice i saw from Pete Rock, and I chop my sample into tiny little pieces, note by note or sound by sound, and assign each one to my MPC. That way, I can play a sample with the kicks at the BPM i want it, and it doesn't fvck with the pitch. Try it out.
