i mean, in a lot of his tracks the sample he use have drums in them, but it seems like the drums are totally removed after he has done his thing in fl. this is a big obstacle i think flipping hot samples with drums in them already, i always end up having to place my drums on top over the exact hits in the sample, but in 9th wonder beats he just flips it non regarding to the drums in the original samples? how the hell does he do that?

i'm guessing his samples are put through a high pass filter so he can basically ignore the kicks. i usually do that unless i want to keep the bassline from the sample as well.

but if you put your sample through a hi pass filter, all the low end will be left out causing it sound real "thin"

how do you get the sample to sound full/warm again?

He probably just EQ's the real lows and uses his own drums to mask the ones in the sample.

sure, lowpass would get rid of most of the kickfrequencies, but what about the snares? the way i see it he must have some serious eq skills cause the way he flips the samples you couldnt even hear that the sample had drums in it originally

Could probably take the hi-passed version and pitch it down but preserve duration, then just layer em and EQ.

most of the soul samples don't have the most banging drums to begin with, you can easily lay your own drums on top and it will cover up the original drums without EQing, i do this all the time. you can also just eq out the frequencies that make the kick thump in the sample. this way the kick is still there but its more dull sounding. also, pitching the sample up will also help take out the kick.
