theres a program called "Peak" and near the bottom of the plug-in menu there is a plug in called "sound transformer seive". i've used this plug-in to eliminate the music from a track and keep the vocals in tact. it eliminates ALL of the music and all of the drums except for maybe a slight snare sound...which you can easily edit out with another effect later. i've used this plug-in several times on different kinds of music and it works every time....i'm surprised more people don't use it or know about it.

IMPOSSIBLE!!! There is no way to remove the background music from the voice, or the voice from the back ground background track. reason beeing that... Once a song is placed into a wav file or mp3 file all the tracks, voice and all, are merged together and are as one, it is now one ultimate track with all the instruments and voices placed together.

The only way that I could see this happenein is if the track was composed of nothing but bas as the instruments and the voice was a high picthed voice. then you could remove the back ground from the voice, only because the voice and bass are so far apart in range that they do not touch.

its not impossible...i did it with several tracks and it gets rid of 90% of the music...it usually only leaves behind a faint snare drum sound if anything. it does change the sound of the vocals making them sound more airy sounding but very slightly. did you try it with the peak plug in ST seive?....

"Load two versions of the song into your sequnecer : one instrumental, and the other containing the vocals you want to extract. Shift the instrumental mix 180 degrees out of phase from the vocal mix. Now mix the 2 together."

Peak looks good but it's not for IA-32.

What about something for Windows. I'm not wasting money on a Mac to do just that.

yeah .. "Load two versions of the song into your sequencer : one instrumental, and the other containing the vocals you want to extract. Shift the instrumental mix 180 degrees out of phase from the vocal mix. Now mix the 2 together."

... And if you havn't got an instrumental version, you can often eliminate the vocals from a modern recording by inverting the phase of the left channel and then mixing the two channels down to one mono file.

I do all this kind of editing in soundforge and it works fine.
