when i cut my samples. i usually take a bar out the sample then use the fruity slicer to cut it up. i set the slicer to 1/2 beat. does anyone chop diff. i mean, do you take chops that aren't beats are bars, but are just random? also, when sampling, do you need to keep your project tempo the same as your sample tempo? i had a sample and i think the project and sample tempo was diff. overall tho it came out really nice, tempo wise anyway. lol. i just like hearin other ppls opinions. lol.

Keeping the tempos the same is only necessary if you are looping. Even then you should employ techniques such as stretching and pitch changing in order to make your sample sound better over the beat. You can't let the sample dictate the beat for you. I usually never look at the tempo of the sample because I don't loop. It's important to chop a sample according to the sounds. You need to chop it at the beginning of the beat, or before a hit or chord strikes. If you just randomly put a chop in the middle of a chord it will sound wrong. I guess it's kind of hard to explain but most people should get what I'm trying to say.

Start off by looking at the wave on wave editor. While you listen to the sample look at the change of the wave when a sound occurs. You should be chopping at the point of when the instrument comes in. Chopping by measurements is a sampling no-no. THE FL Slicer is good but most tracks you sample aren't directly on time. There mostly made by feel, especially 70's music.
