I just read http://www.music-law.com/sampling.html

What if i have a sample from a major player like Michael jackson or the beatles, its obviously illegal unless I clear the sample....

ques1:

what if I take the sample and just add some reverb?? or some kind of effect? does that make the sound mighn now because its unique???

ques2:

what if I recreate the exact same sound I am sampling on my own.... and it sounds exactly like whatever I sampled but I did it???

1: no you are still taking a part of it.. it doesn't matter if you take a note and reverse, distort, pitch it.. even though it's hard to be caught, it's still illegal.

2: if you create the sound it's perfectly fine.. but if you take the melody or replay the song with your own instruments and stuff, you still have to clear it with the creative artist, but not whoever holds the recording rights.

if you have to ask whether its illegal, it probably is.

thats why you have to sample really obscure stuff that no one knows.

I don't know why you're popping off. I tried to help you. No you don't have to verify that every melody is not already used. A lot of music is based on borrowing (or just straight up jacking unfortunately). But listen to something like Dr Dre's - "What's the Difference".

http://www.ultragraphik.com/blog/ind...dre+difference

He had the sample replayed. If it's something that obvious, then there will be some clearances to be made

It's funny to think I'd put my hottest beats on my myspace page. Besides, that realy has nothing to do with adding reverb to clear a sample, or interpolations. I'd Critique your so called hot beats but it seems you have just 8 posts and dont openly show your music. Internet thugs.......

Sample cds. No One said sample cds. Just because you use sample cds doesnt mean its cheating. They all get the job done whether sampling from records, audio cds or sample cds. But to some of these so called "HipHop Purists" using sample cds is bad. I mean yes sometimes you might hear the same sample from the same cd but think about it. Not everybody has a $100 dollars or more to shell out for some choice sample cds,so in actuallity you might not hear these ones coming up as much as you hear the cheaper ones. Just my two cents on everything regarding sampling and staying within the laws. I also agree on sampling more obscure records, Also chop samples you get from records, unless its the hottest loop you heard than run wid it, unless its really known then go about it by manipulating it. Theres so many ways to manipulate samples that anymore if you know what ur doing you can pass the law without getting caught.
