i don't really consider myself a purist; however, all i have are two turntables and a sampler, which is more than enough for me. i wanted to know how people like pete rock and primo make their basslines. do they sample entire basslines or what? please get back at me. my beats are in need of quality bass.

you can use your own bass or use the low end theory. The low end is jus when u eq everything out but the bass, then amplify the bass. low end theory is also an album from the tribe called quest study it CUZ ITS DOPE

Or you could do like me and sample just one bass note. Then tune that bass note into different notes and play with the pads or a midi keyboard

what do you mean by "make their basslines?" how they get their sounds? how they write the melody?

Sample different notes. Sometimes using the same bass
sample as different notes sounds unrealistic and cheesy.
Experiment with layered samples.

I want to say Pete Rock/Hi-Tek uses a chopped bass sound and then he filters it and uses it on 16 levels or maps it across the 64 pads. Premiere I think uses the Planet Phatt. I could be wrong about both of these though.
Peace
