how do you guys do it? when you listen to some commercial samplebased music like kanye west, cool & dre and such, their sample sound so daaaamn hot and right on point with the instruments being so much more living than in the original sample, are they using some kind of special filter with some kind of special slope or something, or are they just really really precise and spend a good time eqing it just the way they want it? how do you guys eq in order to get that kind of sample that you can slider over a bassline and some drums, 9th wonders samples also sounds like this, i know that they cut of the lows, but what more is it to it? are they messing around with filters on the highs to? i dunno, im just hoping for some1 dropping some knowledge on this topic

To add to that question what is the most effective way to get rid of drums on a sample? I usually cut everything around 400 and 10000 but in some cases they only fade out but are still noticable.

The sample been mix some much, don't even do so much too it. But EQ the middles out alittle because of recording, and above 9,000hz, maybe a low cut off but that about it.

Playing over the sample... interpolating from the sample... and laying drums on top of the sample drums...

You have to work w/ the sample... if the drums are there, leave'em... but add some of YOUR drums on t op and in between to make it sound livelier (sp?)...

Also, it's kinda like a magic trick... the magician diverts your attention to what HE wants you to watch... the same w/ a sample... use another aspect.. maybe a hat or something... to take the listener's attention away from what you don't want them to hear..

I've asked this b4 and its true other producers who know how to make the samples crystal clean avoid helping with this question, try to act like your supposed to know how and its nothing really big or they just give a quick to sentence reply to just dead it....

It seems like its really just something that they know and that you have to figure out. you know what I mean like if you know then you know...lol but I know exactly what your getting at fn86 and all I can say is I guess it comes over time I'm focused devestatingly hard on my mix game right now and I honestly think its something that you just pick up with experience

....lol I cut lows and highs and filter unwanted frequencies but hell if its anywhere close to sounding commercial...
