well, I think you should try everything and ask yourself what are the tool s YOU prefer. As far as I am concerned, all the programs you mentionned are quite good, and all depend on what you like.

Drumstation is MUCH more advanced than ReBirth 2.0's 808+909 emulation. Drumstation is fully customizable. BUT... But REASON, a new program, has the REDRUM module, which is a very customizable and advanced.

As for the bassline stuff, you have to test everything.
