What's good, folk?
Got a dilema, maybe some of you could help me iron this out.
I mostly bang out on this old MPC2000. Not even an XL, but it don't matter - it does me just fine. Over the past years, I've collected literally thousands of drums, loops, vocal cuts, SFX, you name it. About 50+ zip disks. Damn.
I'm trying to figure out the best way to archive all that sht on my PC or somewhere, and I'm finding I'm having a problem with labelling my files. Of course, most of them are .wav or .snd files, but if you own an MPC2k you know that there are limitations in naming files (only up to 8chrs.)
After awhile, it's impossible to remember which is a colder bass drum, being stuck with names like "BD001" or "BD741", ya know?
I'm personally planning to do a complete overhaul and re-organization of my filing system, but I ask of you what is a better way to label my files? Do some of you guys have folder after folder, broken down by filter levels, you know, all extravagant with it - or am I forever doomed to be in somebody's studio somewhere rummaging thru a bag full of Zip disks trying to find that "magic 808"?
Help ya boy organize his noise.
ANY advice is greatly appreciated.
My bad, the search feature is, well, ya know....
Thanks for your time.
