I want to start sampling music along with my computer based production setup.

What exactly would I need besides records and a turntable? A specialized sound card? Also what kind of speakers would I need to buy to be able to use playback functions on that sound card?

look through some of the other posts on the board, i have posted this a bunch of times, but basically you need a sound card, a turntable, a preamp, vinyl records, and a recording software.

aight dude this what you need

sound card:
I would get an m-audio sound card they are good for their price to, i would get the 100 dollar one.

Preamp:
you can go to your local music store or shop online for a preamp should be no more than 60 dollars

Turntable:
Dont get a overpriced turntable you just sampling, only thing i would spend the most on is the needle so you can get a good sample, you can always dirty the sample up in the comp.

Records:
anything any record, childrens records and crap just anything.

Software:
Don't know how much money you got but i would get cool edit pro, they changed the name but can't think of it right now but if your on a buget i would get Audicity if free and you can sample it in.

Next all you need is determination, and skill, don't stop keep at it.

Also I would look into a midi controller to if you ain't got one.

I must despise the world which does not know that music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosphy.

I wouldn't put any more money into speakers, IMHO "monitors" are a waste of $$ unless you're springing for high-end Genelecs or something in that range.

I would go with a cheap D.J. mixer as your "preamp", since they are cheap and offer you a little more control of your sound going to your computers soundcard (i.e. EQ, scratching w/crossfader)

I wrote this song a long TIME ago...(back in '93 or '94)

I've been sampling from some rare cd's lately. finding wierd alternate mixes for some songs, you might be able to use you present system and not buy any hardware. just sample off of cds, try it before you spend alot of cash
