Well I got a part of this song that I want to chop up and sample and make it my main melody but the problem is it'd sound too repetitive so I was wondering what you sampled based producers do to add a little spice to it.

get creative and chop it a different way. or find a really obscure part of the song to use and give it variation.

Program an ill bassline and it wont be a problem but if it still sounds repetetive try chopping small vocal samples like "ooh" and tossing it in the mix.

Current Setup
Ensoniq ASR-10
Mackie Onyx 1640
Tascam DA-88 Recorder
DBX 166 Compressor
Lexicon PCM91 Reverb Processor
2 Technics SL-1200MK2 w/M44-7s
Pioner DJM-707

Add a small switch up, drop pieces in and out whether it be the drums or the sample, make drum rolls toward end of loop, let the original sample ride in some parts with out the drums, stutters, stabs, basicly anything to make it sound fresh and not repetitive.

When you play other instruments on top of the sample you can just drop out the sample, or if you don't have any other synths then drop a low pass filter on the sample and make that a change up.

Man..I'd definitely like to see more open drum breaks nowadays. It would work great as a change up right after a chorus and they're just soo damn cool
