Check your soundcard again. I can't believe it don't have a MIDI in out. It should be a 15 pin joystickport, which can also function as a MIDI in/out.
If you really don't have a MIDI In/Out, then go buy a new soundcard.
Digital XG with digital bracket works really well for me.
The soundblaster Live series are also great.

You mean there are MIDI cables that go from those weird lookign midi connections to a 12 or 15 pin slotter? I thoght you always did MIDI to MIDI, but of course I hve a joystick slot, so in thise case I don't really need a MIDI Interface coz I'm just gonan have one keyboard in there.

Get yourself a midi controller, or adapter, or what ever they are called. "Gravis" makes one that plugs into your joystick port on your sound card. The adapter then gives you a midi in, out and through, I think they are cheap. (Dunno how much it costs exactly; I got mine for free.

After working a little more with Reason and the cables, I got it down, which is sweet.

But I'm just wondering if Reason can record wut you play on the keyboard... for the drum, drrrex, synthesizer and sampler, and have wut you played in the sequencer or recorded right into Reason. I find it hard to write melodies and stuff by putting the length and notes in the sequencer, I don't get the right feel, as actully playing on the keyboard.

Well you are on the demo right? I am not sure if this is enabled in the demo version.. But it should work in the full version. I think you said somewhere else that you ordered the program, we'll see if the full version does what you want.. Post here

good luck

ps: cubase VST 5 does what you said (ie record the keyboard controls in realtime)

I was looking at getting that, but I'll wait a while, so wut does it really do? Organize all yer software and MIDI ins? How much does it cost? And can't you get replica plug-ins for that? That would be sweet.

I bought Reason and have a Yamaha keyboard (PSR 160) hooked up to my soundcard with midi...

In the edit--preferences--midi settings of Reason I set the sequencer port to my midi-controller and selected channel 1. Then in the sequencer I left click on a track but I can't seem to play/record any of the devices through my keyboard.

Did I forget to check anything and is there a way that I can check if my midi is working?

Thanks!

Have you made sure your keyboard is also set to channel one, and have you selected the correct MIDI-input?
It's not enough to set it to channel one.
The MIDI-input have to be set to your soundcards MPU-401 or your adapter.
