Since I have a day to spare I've decided to open up, stuff and tune my drums, as an experiment rather than a necessity.
I have got the Drum Tuning Bible
http://home.earthlink.net/~prof.sound/index.html
doesn't really talk of this strange stuffing idea, though it does cover some fundamentals in a comprehensive manner.
I just want any ideas I can get, off the wall or not.
So far I have heard (from the New Order drummer) stuff with shredded paper.
From the internet, try a pillow, duvet, coat, taking note of this position in regards to the resonant surface and the 'batter' surface.
and I would think that different materials have different levels of stability when inside the drum, in terms of staying in the right position.
I think i will try
1. Paper, quite a lot of paper (I will recycle, don't worry!)
2. i pillow at one end
2. ii other end
3. iii both
4. Duvet
5. Maybe some cardboard
anyway, I will tell you what works best for me. For reference sake I am looking for rounded King Crimson sound.
(I would say Parliaments or Goblin but I'm not that brave or oblivious)
