Can someone tell me where on the Mic Preamp food chain, the Mackie Onyx preamps stand? How do they compare with Black Lion Preamps or something like the Focusrite dedicated preamp boxes?

Onyx pre's aren't that bad. I just saw a demo of these pre's a little bit ago. They are better than than the pre's on most interfaces.

Thanks! I was considering some mackie interfaces as an alternative to buying a dedicated single mic pre.

Yea they are good. I'm not hugely familiar with Black Lion Pres. I do think the Focusrites will be a little better though.

i would say they are better than the older mackie mixer pres, but average at best.
