hi there --

yeah two screens are really a MUST in a studio. You can have two screens on one pc, given that you have a dual-head graphics cards (they're really cheap these days <$100). The two screens act like one single screen.

I usually have my "arrangment window" of Logic on the left screen, and the mixer and effects/VST sections on the right screen. A dual screen setup makes working much faster and more efficient.

The two screens act like one big screen. You can just drag windows accross the two screens with your mouse.

I've never used Reason or Cool Edit, sorry, but I don't think you need two screens for that. I think a dual monitor setup is only needed when you have a large track count.

yep.. giganova's right

you usually only need 2 screens if you have a "larger" setup and need the space..

for instance if you have reason rewired to a softwaresequencer (logic, cubase, pro tools etc..) it would make sense to have reason on one screen and the sequencer on the other one (for being able to work on both without having to move/minimize the other one)

You can simply drag the windows and icons where you want them and hopefully they will stay there. Basically you have one main screen where the start up graphics and the icons of the HardDrives appear (I'm talking Mac OSX here). I don't know if you really need a second monitor with reason, I do not really use this programm.
For a big sequencing program as Cubase or Logic a second monitor is really helpful, though.

...searching....Aahhh......
.......wait...how does this work?

Glad to be here

Two screen's isnt a must, depending on your setup. If you are primairly a software producer, then I'd highly advocate 2 screens. If you've got some soft of hardware sequencer/mixer, you can def get buy with only one screen becuase most of the things you are gonna control are on the hardware unit itself.

Advantage of 2 screens:
You can work with your main project in the left screen, and then do midi editing/audio editing/effects editing.

Disadvantage of 2 screens:
Space - I had to buy a whole new desk to fit my monitors and my monitors on the same desk.
Money - It's gonna cost you some money to double up your screen size and you also need a video card that can support dual mointor output.

Ive had 2 screens since before I started doing music and I could never go back. It's kinda hard to explaing the ease of use until you play with it for a while.
