I've seen people use both terms all over FP.
I was just wondering if there's a difference...

imo at first there was no fukn diff cuz technically a beatmaker produces beats duhh but somehow the meanings changed and now ppl that are good with protools but have mediocre beats feel they're superior to someone who just 'makes beats'..or maybe a dude with hot beats and good song production skills needed something to put over the head of the guy 'that just makes hot beats' just to make himself feel better and that shyt caught on ESP on these type forums..it's an ego thing..'oh you just make beats, yea they're fire but I add reverb and comprees vocals too so I'm better than you!'

well i used to think that beatmakers make beats and producer smake beats and record vocals and master a song but then I heard the an audio engineer is the one that records vocals and mixes the song and masters it so I dont really know anymore I think the guy above is right a producer and beatmaker are the same but a producer is an ego thing.

the engineer does mix/master,you're correct...a 'producer' creates or helps create the song..there's different types of producers..you have beatmakers that are also songwriter producers...you got producers' like Puffy that tells you what he wants and get's an artist to put it down..then you got beatmakers that play engineer/producer that record vocals and add appropriate sound effects and adjust levels and customizes the beat around lyrics and gives his opinion on an artist's performance during recording

of course, the songwriters got bigger egos but thas cool..in rap ESP indie rap you're hopefully dealing with artists that are nice with it and don't need nobody else's lyrics imo ..the last producer i described is that dude ESP if he got hot beats...thas how bangers are made

Quick answer.

Beat Maker: Provides a track, nothing more.
Producer: Provides a track, does post processing and vocal correspondence i.e. tempo filtering and break down effects. A Producer will see the track through 100%
