Every time I go to Soundclick to check the instrumentals charts, I discover that the majority of the TOP producers are living in an overseas country -- mostly UK and Germany with a few others (Rapitfly and Vans Beats come to mind, but there are tons of others).

I guess this seems to make sense. After all, Native Instruments and Steinberg both hail from Germany. Plenty of professional plug-in companies run out of the UK as well, even though specific names aren't coming up in my head. Seems like they have an ear for good sound over there.

My question is this: Why can't American producers be like that? My hypothesis is that we've got this "full-of-ourselves" attitude over here that prevents us from trying to get better (cuz we are the **** after all right?), and all we're doing is deluding ourselves into feeling like we can do something good.

And a personal note: Stop using 808/909 snares so liberally. Its ****ing annoying.

Becuase in the UK our weather sucks ass. So we stay inside, chop samples and create new synth patches.

There's your answer.

its because UK is not influence by the American Hollywood, soulj boy follow the trends of immediate radio influence... the focus on the fundamentals of hip adding the future digital appeal.while cats in the states are focused on the drum rolls and the annoying hi hats, along with the same drum structure etc....

But... yea i get all my inspiration from louis den and there crew... the push the bar...Im an Ny cat looking for creativty... and i find it in the UK... the cats out there are not doing it for the money... they do it for the art... and u can see it in their production, and the community they have built for beatmakers...

only thing I can think of is the fact Trance/Electronica music is a big thing in Germany, Amsterdam, Belgium, etc.

Trance is VERY hard to produce/mix because of the many sounds and many buildups and breakdowns...when they do hiphop its almost like taking a dog for a walk to them (well ok much more harder than that but it's significantly less harder to produce hiphop music than electronica imo).

+ I don't know for sure but I think the 808s, saw synths, plucks, bell noises, pads, snare rolls all derived from uses through electronica (DnB and breakbeats are a good example of drum patterns).

They got a lot of hi-tech stuff there too. They work their asses off and get exposed to a lots of people who have a thing for music..

we do too but yeah they're like on a whole new level.

I'm sure people overseas say the same thing about some of the best American producers.

Something new usually seems better... b/c you're not used to it.
