my rant? for the month...

i come by here every few days and see what's going on as i have for the past 6 or 7 years and i notice that the majority of the kats on the board are sleeping HARD on the indie hip-hop scene.

i forget dude's name, but he always post songs from a lot of indie kats making noise and he has the right idea. there are about 50-75 or so DOPE indie hip-hop artist (who are making moves and have connects) that you all could be making beats for right now and most of you don't...why?

is it going to being money? mostly, probably not at first...but these kats are doing so much that they have labels knocking down their door b/c of their fan base and opps they are taking advantage of..so down the line if you are one of these indie rappers go to guy for beats and they choose to go the major route, you could bring in some $$$, not to mention the BLOG exposure

AND they are very accessible via twitter, facebook, etc.

but n e way, im done...back to beats

i think since everyone here is a "future producer," they are focused on the glory, therefore they only pay attention to those who are in the position they want to be in. by doing that, they fail to notice that most of the big producers from timbo to the neptunes to whoever draw their inspiration from alot of abstract forms of music, including indie rap, rock, electronic music, or whatever. U'll hardly ever hear Tim or any successful producer say "i was influenced by my counterpart [insert name of famous producer]"

u have to pay attention to the indie scenes of all forms of music to know what's up next. who knows, maybe u'll find the next artist that u want to work with and u'll both take a ride to the top together.

speaking of indie hip hop, i been seein u'r name around a lot of blogs lately. keep grindin, it's payin off!

i dont get why more people dont work with indie cats, or try to..

if u have the beats that people want, its mad easy to get in contact with em..

ive worked/am working with Rain, Big Cas, City Haze, Noah Jones, Kai Holmes, Chance, Sly Boogy, Roshana, Sean Ray, Conflict and K-Boy of Blu Division

im always down to work with hard working indies, and if they have moeny it just makes the situation even sweeter

its just hard to always give indies free tracks, even if that deal is right around the corner, cause u always want to get compensated for your work.. but thanks to PMP its def opened the door to a lot of paying indie/up and coming Rappers/Singers

Indies are the future, so it's best to get in now.
Some will sign to majors, and others will continue doing their own thing.

I don't know, dudes think they're gonna get mega rich off 1 placement with a major.

The wackest producer of all time.

The entire hip hop genre whether signed to a major or not business-wise is operating on a independent level at this point. The few that are not are in the 'pop' category. Its back to the 80's once again with a digital twist. What is missing is the new 'tommy boys' and 'sleeping bags' and 'profile records' to emerge to help prop up the new creative talent correctly

that pretty much sums it up right there, kanye's 808's and heartbreak and even graduation to a certain extent was HEAVILY influences by the indie scenes in LA, NYC and Europe. Timbaland like you said, and a bunch of other producers are the same way.

and thank u sir

good point...once the majors started giving up "slashes"....they killed the real independents that were the origin of hip hop....a hip hop independent was like a major back in the days because they were the only ones ****ing with hip hop....

yeah, but Tommy Boy, Sleeping Bag, First Priority and all them were able to get radio spins back then, that's a HUGE difference between the players of today and the old-school indie spots. Radio exposure to the young cats = fame and money in their eyes (though it may never happen like that), so naturally they go for that. They want the fame, people asking for autographs and whatnot, groupies and the like... You know, the stuff they see on TV and in videos.

Most older cats I know are content with walking down the street incognito, knowing that they made good music and that someone was feelin it enough to buy it from 'em. Sometimes you don't need the fame to feel good about what you've done.
