Sup FP,
Thought this would be a good discussion.
What steps are you actively taking in transitioning this from a hobby to a full-time career in music production?
First, tell us what your status is as of now (do you have any indie/major placements, or are you just starting out, etc)
Then tell us what you want to ultimately accomplish and what you're doing right now to accomplish that.
I'll go first:
I've been making music since about 2005. I've worked with several local artists here in Toronto, but no one major. The biggest thing we've done so far has been producing a track for one of Polow da Don's artists, signed to Zone 4. But it was more for demonstration purposes, to show people at the label what he's capable of.
What we want to do is produce pop music for established artists all over the world. What we're doing to accomplish that:
Continuing to polish our production skills
Looking for A-list songwriters
Looking for reputable managers
Sending material to artists' managers
Researching publishing companies, entertainment lawyers
Once we get a few things together, our next step is to contact someone in the Ceative department of a major publishing company who will hopefully arrange a collaboration with an already-established songwriter. Then with the finished songs, hopefully get a publishing deal.
