This tutorial will show you how to layer leads properly. It talks about the various things to take into consideration when layering leads. How to find the right sounds, frequencies, what goes well together and what does not. It will also show you some EQ techniques. This tutorial is for FL Studio, but the same theory and concepts applies across all DAWs, so it should be useful regardless of which daw you're using.

Layering is not always necessary. It should only be performed if your sound is missing something that could only be fixed with layering. If not, then don't or it will just add clutter to the mix. If the current sound is lacking in a specific range or texture then layering is essential to solve that issue.
