At the beginning of the song Hollyhood Vacation by Deuce it starts with a string arp and some kind of piano-like sound, but I cant figure out what the piano sound is. Anyone know? Its like a low octave piano note but without any of the bass you would normally hear, so I'm guessing he just EQed the bass out? Ive heard Dr. Dre use this same kind of sound in a couple of his beats before too.

Sorry for no link as I'm on my ipod atm, just youtube the song. Shouldnt be hard to find.

Honestly if you listen closely it sounds like the same strings at a lower octave layered with a piano around the same note as the strings. And if that is the case it's just blended and mixed pretty good. Try that on whatever DAW you working with and it should be pretty easy to mimic that. If you cant find a good string use a bass with different filters and add the pianos, either way that sound should be pretty easy once you find the right note.

To me it sounds to be more than just low strings doubling it - even if I accept that they are being played with pickups there is too much definite pitch for it to be string ensemble, so I'm going to opt for

*a sawtooth wave with string like adsr settings
    *
    *plus
    *
    *some strings
    *
    *plus
    *
*maybe a bass guitar like one of the Gibson Eb3's with all of the highs rolled off
    *
*making a double octave run at the high strings line two octaves below....

I tried the string combo out on reason and came close then I tried a bass guitar layered with a concert piano to get that piano hit with a nice mild bass and that sounded way better but i did create a nice piano string in the process so it's a win win on my side but when ever you get access to a PC try a few bass guitars with some piano hits (with nice attack) and i caught myself listening to that track a few times not my style to much but the sound is nice tho.

@bandcoach.. the sawtooth would work to, i might try that latter on.
