I heard it in a lot of motown and some in amy winehouse songs too.. my guess is a brass??


That sound plays every time the snare hits.

Is it a brass in staccato or pizzcato???

before I heard it I thought tambourine would be the most likely answer closely followed by guitar

as for how the guitar is played: it is a downward strummed arpeggio - you can hear each note (from lowest to highest) in the chord that is being played
