quick chord progression question! help

whats up fp im stuck right now!!! hit a learning curve

my question is how do you determine the numbers in a chord progression?

like example 1 4 5

now i know in the key of c

this would be cmaj fmaj gmaj

and only reason i know this is because of doing reseach (progressions in the key of c)

can anybody help or point me in a right direction

if i remember correctly you just count up the scale

if it was Cm

C D Eflat F G Aflat Bflat C
1 2 3 4 5 6 7

therfore the 1,4,5 would be the chords of those respective notes

or Am

A B C D E F G A
1 2 3 4 5 6 7

Yes, thats write platinum. You build the triad off the IV and V from the root note of the key youre in.

In your case its C Major. And the Chord you identified are correct. You can add a (Maj) 7th on top of those chords when you are ready too. Or you can go for a blues sound and add a Dom7th...

Go here (major) or here (natural minor) or here (harmonic minor) or here (melodic minor). Go here and here to find some progressions to practice on.

Generally Roman numeral are used to identify chords and Hindu-Arabic numerals are use dot indicate melodic tones.
