question about the tritone interval?

if im playing in C# natural MINOR SCALE C#M #DDIM E F#M G#M A B

AND A TRITONE IS C# TO G WHICH CANT BE DONE BECAUSE G IS NOT IN THE SCALE HOW CAN I PLAY A TRITONE IN C#NAT MINOR? IM TOTALLY CONFUSED RIGHT NOW :4theloveofgod:

Well, you COULD if you want to venture off the scale for a little bit. However, if you want to stay within the confines of C#minor, no. However, you CAN play a tritone in the C#minor scale. It would have to be from A to D# (or in relation to any other minor key, the second scale degree to the sixth).

a tritone is 6 semitones wide or 3 tones wide (hence tri-tone)

In C major this is the interval F-B and B-F (this makes sense if you stop and think about it for a moment)

So in C# nat min (C#-D#-E-F#-G#-A-B-C#) the tritone exists between D# and A and A to D#

so a tritone would be from a to e that's six semitones up from the root in the a Lydian scale right?

No, that would be A-D# or D#-A.

The Lydian Mode of A is A-B-C#-D#-E-F#-G#-A (note that the naming of notes in this mode (and any scale or mode for that matter) is based on the idea that each note name appears only once and therefore the idea that the note could be an E is wrong in this context, even though it is an equivalent name)
