practicing different styles

so i know that i should practice different styles to become better at music production
but the problem is that when i make something that's not something i usually listen to,
1) i don't know how that genre is supposed to sound like, so i end up copying someone else
2) i don't really like what i'm making, so i can't finish the track.

any advice on how to study?

Keep practicing. You'll not create your own identity with only some few tries. You're on the right patch, though: trying to "copy" someone else's song. Keep doing this, and start adding your own things to the song.

If you're not planning on release them as yours, it's ok. Afterall, you'll be learning how estabilished artists do what they do on their songs.

Yes. In music, imitation is the best form of education. Study how the greats did it, then apply those techniques to your own work.
