melody ending on starting note/root note

Hi guys,

I have noticed that whenever i try to create melodies that start on a root note and end on the same root (making the journey back to the root note to end), all my melodies tend to sound the same (the same up and down pattern). Any tips, as to how i can make my melodies sound less like each other? I have come to the understanding that melodies have to follow this rule where it starts on a root note and makes a journey mid way and then comes back to the root note...
