Making groove

when I listen my beat, I feel a lack of groove or vibe.
so I tried to make complex pattern or laid back so far.
But some artists like a dilla, use simple and back pattern well
and I found some nice artists who can make good groove, use quantise a lot.
then what make a good groove/beat/vibe?

I suppose mixing and drum shaping can be a way to make good groove also.
am I right?

shame to show my beats... Sorry...
but I like la beat scene a lot like flylo, samiyam, teebs, monopoly and so on.
Also hiphop like madlib, j dilla and so on.

study! I'd say study ever element until you figure out how to do it

Quantizing is just half the equation. The "dilla swing" you get comes from quantizing, but you do that so you can apply a swing to it. Depending on your software or hardware it will have different names but it's all basically the same. In Ableton it's actually called a "groove" and there are a lot of options you can hot swap through until you get the feel you want. Ableton comes with the MPC swing grooves built in, those are good for that classic hip hop feel. In Maschine you can just adjust a global swing.
