to sonic bionic - i find that with most instruments, it's not just the sounds they make but the interface through which we manipulate and control those sounds that defines how we work with it. to some extent, 'the process becomes the product'.

if you feel you're only writing loops, then perhaps it's the interface that's limiting you. have you thought about changing to a different sequencer? like logic or cubase?

-for the dead soldier tracks, I was thinking of doing some "groove trading" at the website. Stasis said he is down. anyhoo, rather than struggling while trying to finish a song, if you get stuck at some point, or you are on a good groove and don't know where to take it, I was thinking that one could just export the groove including each individual track within the song to wav files. . .say a 2 or 4 measure loop, zip em all up and trade 'em or hand 'em off to people, and maybe someone else would know a better way to take that groove.

This all depends on one's attitude toward their stuff. I know, if I have an unfinished track wasting space on my harddrive, and I think it has potential but I just don't want to deal with it, I would be more than happy to let someone else take it, phuck widdit, refine it, post it, publish it, get paid for it. . . .whatever, as long as I got some credit, not monetary wise. My theory is that production and quality would be amplified with more minds. . .but it's just a theory.

It's mostly about sharing production ideas and techniques.

N-E-1-down? (aka, anyone have tons of schit sitting on their hard drives, collecting dust?)

    try this: http://briefcase.yahoo.com/popdz

I'll have sumfin in there after this weekend.

    My plan:

export the groove as a 4 or 8 measure loop mp3(or however u want) and export each individual track as a 4 0r 8 measure loop, i.e. drums (or break up your drumloop into elements) / bassline / melody / other pattern / as mono wavs, and zip 'em all up with a readme.txt 'splainin u and save as 'your_name'.zip.

Let me know if you can't access my briefcase, and I'll drive the 5 miles to the yahoo main office and go knock some heads

crap. I just figured out, only I can upload to it, so if you want me to put your zip in there, email it to me and I will. popd@chronictronic.com

better yet, if you want total control, go get you a yahoo profile and set it up for yourself

richie hawtin said that minimalism was the balance between what was necessary and what wasnt. try and apply this philosophy to your tracks and have confidence in your music to not add soun dsfor the sake of it or just beacuse you feel you have to.
the general practice, (if their can be such a thing) is to get a loop going, work with it adding and subtracting sounds until you have something you are completely happy with. make this "full" loop the main part of your track and arrange round this, i.e depending on your genre, start with the loop playing but with some tracks muted then gradually bring in tracks until all are playing, this is the peak of your track, then slowly bring it to the end, kind of following the beginning but in reverse
