Can someone explain what this really means?

Ok, i understand how Major, Minor, Augmented and Diminshed and so forth works theoretically. I somewhat understand how scale works... but im confused about this one... are they talking about the specific sound of chords?

I'm not getting the question buddy to be honest. But I'll give it a go:

Yes, there is a certain *sound* to chords obviously. A very basic approach would be to see Major and minor chords as concordant, in that they don't need to be resolved by a further chord. They sound sonically satisfying as they are. Play a diminished chord ( root note plus 3 semitones plus 3 semitones ) and you hear it's quite dissonant or tense, the same with an augmented chord ( root/4,4 )

Maybe a better way to explain their use would be to say a 'passing chord' or a phrase in you music to add tension, then resolve it by a Maj or min chord.

Does that help any?

when you say
"are they talking about the specific sound of chords? "

what excatly do you mean?
