How to get kicks to POP?

I've taken some time and figured out how to get my hats and snares sounding the way I want, but I always have trouble with getting kicks to hit how I want them to hit.
I'm sorting aiming for the chief keef/young chop type kicks, or the monstrous kick used on Mercy.
I've tried using compressors, transient shapers, eq and layering but they always end up sounding muddy and I can't get them to POP.
I'm just looking for advice and what you guys like to do.

it's all a SUB sound. get a bass; better a virtual one or midi. then just play one (ONE) note for 4bars. then side-chain it to your original kick so it will only activate when your kick is hit. if you want you can change the notes..
^^ that is if you're wondering about the SUB sound that keeps going after the kick ^^

find a frequency sound (continuous beep sound) that you can change the frequency of and make it low. side-chain it to your kick and it will make it sound fatter, lower, deeper.
^^ that's if you want a fatter, lower, deeper kick. ^^

I know how to sidechain bass and kick, Im just trying to get a THUMPING kick. I know it has something to do with compression. I need that punch

EDIT: So far i've figured it out and it has to do with layering different kicks and messing with the adsr envelopes, so you have the sharp attack one of kick and the low thump of another.
