as for chord progressions, use what you would for the major but avoid chord [sup]#[/sup]v[sup]b5[/sup] or treat [sup]#[/sup]v[sup]b5[/sup] as V[sup]7b9[/sup] - borrow back the natural 5 of the major and use it as the bass note of the chord

I'm sure I'm wrong, but would ionian #5 progressions be similar to the intro to Lauryn Hill's song "To Zion"?

the chords used are
Gm - A - Dm - F throughout, which denies the #5 of the F chord (it should be F[sup](#5)[/sup] if it were using the scale to create the chords)

It is related to the Ionian #5 (Ionian Augmented in that it is the 3rd mode of that scale), so for it to be Ionian#5, the scale would have to be considered to start on F instead and use the augmented triad on F

F - G - A - Bb - C# - D - E - F

(so yes, good ear at one level, but wrong tonic in play causing it to be something else - this is why theory both sucks and rocks)
