Help with the basic theory about drums

Hello, where can i get basic theory about drums? I know, this question is kinda silly, but I want to include some drums into my compositions. The theory what i need to know is really basic. For example where the kick drum is used, only on beat or off beat is okay too? Where percussion, hi hats, snares and etc. On beats, off beats or both ? I just need to find some sources which covers that basic information about drums.

There is a book called drum programming it is the best beginner book it shows you a bunch of different drum patterns on a grid style like your DAW
 
you might want to check out the drum programming tutorial in my siglinks

there are also some threads here at fp where I discuss rudimentary drumming and its application to general programming of drums as well
