Getting that professional sound

Was just wondering what you guys add to sound to give it that professional feeling. For example you have just made a melody and selected and piano sound from nexus what tweeks do you guys usually do to get the sound seeming more professional.

Depends a lot of what genre. For EDM, compression, widener, layering, EQ and delays (and nexus pianos are really overloaded with them) are all important elements.

What genre?
Record your piano and post it here for better feedback.

Really depends if the samples your using sound good from the beginning. If they don't..probably should layer and/or EQ

I would say to have a professional sound, just have a nice mix. ( Not loud mix )

If the initial piano sound is pretty solid, I normally start by putting on a fairly high amount of compression. Often it'll sound good to go after that (if your initial sound/vst is already tweaked to your liking). Also, the subtleties in your piano playing can make a pretty big difference in sound as well if it's fairly velocity sensitive.

There are plenty of tips you need to know. Such as, use equalizers less, and rather decrease frequencies than increase them. Mixdown process is very important too. It makes your sounds noticeable and your overall mix clean. And don't produce with mastering effects on. Master your tracks only after you make them sound perfect.
