how would you achieve the type of flute sound that you hear in that song? i'm not too knowledge about compression and eq so it's hard to tell if it's a certain type of that, or there's certain types of flute sounds that sound more smoother and softer like that...this probably sounds vague but i'm just curious as how to create a flute like that

around 6 seconds it first comes in...i figured it could have been a highly compressed/eq'd flute but maybe it's something entirely different

It's a french horn.

Agree with krushing it's a couple of French horns over some piano, tubular bells, and low strings - 'Cello section and double bass section.

...in other words, probably some kind of an orchestral combo patch from your basic Motif/Fantom/M3.
