Drum synthesizers or sound kits?

I want to make an original sound that's of high quality, and I want to know is there any drum synthesizers that can make any kind of Hip Hop type kick like an 808? And are samples simply took from drumkits, all most producers use to make beats?

You do realize that the TR-808 is a synthesizer? Yes, similar results can be done with almost any basic subtractive synth - the 808 kick isn't a very complex sound (although it's not easy to get it exactly right). There are also drum-oriented synths (which usually just means restricting the feature set & parameter ranges to percussively-useful values). Sonic Charge's MicroTonic could be a nice place to start, as it's not too overwhelming and sounds good.

Samples can come from anywhere - record your own, combine others, process them, be creative. Just reusing stuff from readymade kits gets old quick in my book.
